Fijian culture

The Fijian culture is very laid back and the people are very friendly. Fiji time just might be later than Hawaii time!  When the English colonized Fiji they tried to get Fijians to work the sugar cane fields. Due to the laid back nature of the Fijian culture the English were unhappy with the pace of work on the fields. To get more productivity out of the cane fields the English brought in Indians to work the field.  This has resulted in just over a third of the population of Fiji being Indians.  Although the blending of these very different two cultures can cause problems, from an outsiders perspective it has created a bleautiful new culture. You can see the Indian influence the most in the Fijian food..
